The Essentials

Initial 12-week freelance contract - potential to become permanent

£20 per hour
10 hours per week.

Work flexibly from home - ideally meeting and working together in Brighton occasionally. Starting ASAP.

Closing date - 26th September, although we will assess applications as they come in and may close applications sooner than this.

About us

Party Snail Games is a small independent board game company making fast, funny party games - including Ninja Hamster Apocalypse Disco, Clay It Again and What The Scribble?! We’ve sold more than 25,000 games since launching 2 years ago and are now looking to grow our social presence to share our games and brand.

About the role

We’re looking for someone creative, organised and commercially minded to help us grow on TikTok and Instagram.

You’ll help us:

  • Edit engaging, primarily video-based content (we expect this will form at least half the role)
  • Help plan and develop content ideas
  • Create content yourself where appropriate - we expect this to mostly be video
  • Post regularly and interact through our social accounts
  • Grow our audience and help us sell through TikTok Shop and other channels
  • Use AI and automation behind the scenes to build efficient, repeatable processes for planning, editing and scheduling - but not to generate content or interact with our audience!

About you

You will:

  • Be a skilled video editor, with experience turning raw footage into engaging short-form content
  • Have experience creating video content for social media. This doesn't have to be in a professional capacity and could be for yourself, a brand or somebody else.
  • Understand TikTok, Instagram and what makes content work
  • Think about the *why*, not just make things look polished
  • Balance quality with getting content made and published
  • Be reliable, organised and a good communicator
  • Be comfortable giving and receiving honest feedback
  • Live in the UK and have a legal right to work here

You don’t need professional experience, and you don’t necessarily need to appear on camera - although it's a positive if you can. However, some hands-on experience of creating and editing online content (either for yourself or others) is essential. We care most about your instincts, ideas, attitude and ability to make things happen.

An interest in marketing and e-commerce would be a big bonus.

We’re based in Brighton, so being within travelling distance - whether in Sussex, London or elsewhere in the Southeast - would be a bonus, but it isn’t essential.

And a bit more info

You’ll work closely with the founder and our small team, see lots of different parts of a growing business and have a genuine opportunity to shape how our brand develops. We’re a friendly, supportive team, and you’ll also be eligible for a performance bonus so you can share in the success you help create.

We know we’re asking for a varied mix of skills, so we’ll shape the role around the strengths of the right person. You won’t be expected to arrive being amazing at everything - we’re looking for someone who can take ownership, learn quickly and develop with us.

If the role and the business both develop as we hope, there’s also the potential for this to become a permanent position.

Please tell us during the application process about any time away you already have planned during the 12 week contract so that we can discuss how it could be accommodated.

However, the period from 22 November to 22 December is particularly important for our business. You must be available to work the agreed hours throughout this period, including regularly monitoring and responding through our social accounts.

Apply

We really respect your time and are grateful for the effort and time it takes to apply. With that in mind, we have tried to make applying as straightforward as we can.

To apply, fill in the Google form below. We are asking you to answer two very short written questions, share links to three examples of your best online content and make a short video which does not require any editing or polishing!

The questions (max 150 words each)

> Tell us about your experience creating, producing and editing video content for online use and/or social media.

> Based on the job advert, tell us about any other relevant experience and skills you have. If you’ve marketed or promoted products online, please mention it here.

We will also ask you to share links to three examples of your best content. At least two should be Instagram posts, Instagram Reels or TikTok videos. The third can be another Instagram or TikTok example, a YouTube video or another relevant format. For each example, please briefly explain what you personally contributed - such as the idea, filming, presenting, editing, or strategy.

We’d also like you to record a short, informal video of no more than five minutes answering these questions:

  • Briefly, what appeals to you about Party Snail Games and this role? One minute maximum.

  • Which person, channel or brand do you particularly admire for its content - and why? You’re welcome to mention more than one. Two minutes maximum.

  • Having looked at Party Snail Games, what type of content would you be excited to make/try with us - and why? Two minutes maximum.

While we will look closely at the three existing examples you share, we will not judge the production, video or audio quality of your 5 minute (max!) application video. Please don’t edit it or create anything elaborate, just open up your phone or laptop and record yourself talking naturally so we can get a feel for you and your ideas.

What happens next

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a short online interview. You'll also have the chance to ask us as many questions as you want - we want to make sure we're a good fit for you too!

Following the interview, we may ask you to complete 4-8 hours of paid freelance work as a final stage of decision making, so we can see how you work and what you produce. We will set a clear and limited brief for this, and you will be paid for the agreed time whether or not you’re subsequently offered the contract.

We’ll review applications as they arrive and will progress suitable candidates before the final application deadline. We may close applications before the deadline, if we find a suitable candidate, so please don't delay your application!

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We require that all applicants live in the UK, and have a legal right to work here.

We will delete all data submitted within 3 months of the contract deadline. Applications will only be viewed by directors of the company, and our Partnerships Manager.

While we aim to respond to all applicants, we are unable to give specific feedback before the interview stage.

We are really excited about this role - both what it is and what it could become! We hope that you feel excited about it too and if you do, we can't wait to hear from you.
