When the cards snap, race against your opponent to say something from their category, before they get an answer from yours. With barely enough time to think before you answer, Snaptastic will have you blurting hysterical answers that range from the brilliant to the bizarre!
! WARNING ! This game contains lots of opportunity for absurd jokes and hilarious toilet humour. All the cards are PG but you may want to censor your answers if playing with children, to protect their precious little ears! For maximum enjoyment, leave behind your serious brain, unleash your inner child and have fun!
HOW TO PLAY
- Shuffle and deal out all the Snaptastic cards, leaving each player with a facedown draw stack in front of them. If some players have an extra card to others, that is ok.
- Shuffle the category cards and deal one to each player. To begin, these should be placed face up in front of each player, so everyone can see them. Put the leftover category cards to one side.
- Set a 10 minute timer using a phone or watch. If you do not have a timer it is no problem - simply play until 2 players have run out of cards.
- You are ready to get snapping! Start the timer. The player to the left of the dealer turns the top card of their draw stack face up in front of them, creating their own play pile. Continuing clockwise around the circle, each player takes it in turn to do likewise, creating their own face up play pile in front of them. Keep the pace up - pausing to think is not allowed, and neither is taking a sneaky peak at your cards as you turn!
When any two face up cards match, the two players whose cards snap must race to say something from the other person’s category, before the other player says something from theirs.
So if Player A has ‘smelly things’ in front of them and player B has ‘unlikely uses for a banana’ in front of them, then player A must try to name an unlikely use for a banana before player B names a smelly thing!
The player who was first to say something from the other player’s category takes the snap cards from both their own and the other player’s face up play pile and puts them at the bottom of their draw stack.
-----
IMPORTANT SNAP STUFF!
REPETITION: No repetition is allowed. Once an answer has been used in a round it cannot be used again, even if it is for a different category card. Any repetition is an instant loss and the other player takes the cards.
MIS-SNAP?! Saying something that does not fit the category card OR when there is no match of cards means losing, with the other player taking the cards.
SNAP TIE? If two players both say something at the same time, those players take their own play pile only and put it to the bottom of their draw stack. Play continues from where it left off.
-----
The player who won the snap re-starts play. They turn the top card from their draw stack, and play continues from them.
If a special card is turned over, play is paused until the action of the special card is followed 👇
- The player who turns the FLIP card reads out their category card, and then turns it over. Other players will need to remember what this category is. If they forget, the player whose card is flipped does not need to remind them. If a category card is already face down when a FLIP card is played, the category card must be flipped back to face up.
- The player who turns the NEW CATEGORY card discards their existing category card into the game box, and takes a new category card. This new category card must always be read aloud and placed face up, even if the old category card was face down.
- When a ROTATE card is turned, all players pass their category cards one place to the left, thus changing what each player’s category card is. Face down category cards remain face down. Face up category cards remain face up.
Once the special card has been followed, the player who played the special card restarts play by turning the next card from their draw stack, thus covering up the special card just played.
No cards? No problem!
If a player runs out of cards in their draw stack and play pile they are not out! If a player has no cards in front of them and 2 other players snap, the player with no cards can say something from either matching player’s category. If they are the first to do this, they take the cards from both matching players’ play piles, and create their own draw stack again.
Ending the game and declaring a winner
Unless one player already has all the cards (this is unlikely!), the game finishes at the end of the ten minute timer. If playing without a timer, the game ends when two players have run out of cards in both their draw stack and play pile.
Each player counts the cards in both their draw stack and play pile. The player with the most cards is declared the winner. Woohoo!
Tie Breaker
In the case of a tie, continue playing in sudden death mode: when any two players snap, only the 2 players with the most cards can answer. The first player to say something from either of the two snapping player’s categories is declared the winner.
And that’s it. Rules over. Let the fun begin!
